The Workhouse Art Center hosts a wide variety of visual arts classes offered weekdays and weekends, at a range of times throughout the day. Try your hand at a new medium with a one or two day workshops or hone in on your skills with one of our 4 to 10 week classes.

Please note that every attempt is made to keep all print and online media up-to-date with appropriate class time and date changes when necessary and that all class times and dates are subject to change.

Winter Classes

Open Life Drawing!

Open Life Drawing on All Skill Levels, Ages 16 & Up

Three hours of drawing from a live model for a low-low-price. Come to brush up on your skills or work on that portfolio! The poses will range from 1 minute gestures to long poses; nude and clothed model sessions. Models will vary from 1 week to 3 week increments. Bring your own drawing supplies (i.e. Charcoal, drawing board, paper, etc.) Easels, stools, tables and rolling carts are provided. This is not a class. No instruction will be provided. There will be a monitor present to facilitate model poses.


**Walk-ins will no longer be accepted, students MUST pre-register. Registration will be cut off the Wednesday prior by 5pm and no more than 6 students may register for any one Thursday, so register early to ensure your space!

**Face masks must be worn at all times during class. 

**Students are expected to assist in wiping down any communal studio equipment used both prior to use and after use in class. 


The first four Thursdays of every month, 6pm-9pm

 

Tuition: $15

We ask that if you pre-register and are not able to attend, that you tell our office asap, prior to Wednesday night at 5pm so that we can open those seats up to potential students.

Let’s learn more tangles! Zentangle® Workshop (Winter)

Intermediates, Young Adults & Adults

You loved the basic Zentangle® workshop with Marisela and want to learn more?  This class is focused on learning more tangles, enhancers, tanglelations and monotangles.  Basic Zentangle Workshop with Marisela Rumberg or another Certified Zentangle Teacher is required.


Winter Quarter: One Day

Thursday February 4, 10am - 2pm


Tuition: $90
Materials: $12 materials fee or $6 if you bring your own pens.

Amazing Letters and Monograms Workshop (Winter)

All Skill Levels, Young Adults & Adults
Instructor: Marisela Rumberg CZT

Make you initials look amazing when you decorate and enhance with tangles and auras following the Zentangle® Method. You can choose any letter you want to decorate and at the end of the workshop you will have the knowledge and techniques to even do the whole alphabet. Instructor Marisela Rumberg is a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) and we guarantee you will fall in love with Zentangle if you haven’t yet. Attending Basic Zentangle class is recommended but not required.

Foundations of Cartooning – Intermediate Studies in Character Design (Winter)

Beginners through Intermediates, Ages 16 & Up
Instructor: Gil RIvera

In this 2nd course of character design, you will use your creativity along with professional guidance to create your cartoon/comic book characters. Intermediate skills such as body types, design, fashion, penciling & inking will be taught. By the end of the course you will have created your own fully imagined original cartoon/comic book characters!

Winter Quarter: 5 weeks

Visual Arts Classes Online

Drawing for Beginners & Intermediates

All Skill Levels, Young Adults & Adults

Instructor: Marni Maree

No Previous Drawing Experience is required. In this class you will learn to SEE better and explore different ways of drawing. You will learn about contours, gestures, light and shadow and many ways to draw what you see.

 

Special Online 6 week class

Class will begin on Wednesday March 31, 6pm-7:30pm


Tuition: $180

Materials: Sketchbook 8x10 or larger, soft pencil (2B or 3B), eraser, ink pen (does not bleed through your paper).
