Drawing & Design

The Workhouse Art Center hosts a wide variety of visual arts classes offered weekdays and weekends, at a range of times throughout the day. Try your hand at a new medium with a one or two day workshops or hone in on your skills with one of our 4 to 10 week classes.

Please note that every attempt is made to keep all print and online media up-to-date with appropriate class time and date changes when necessary and that all class times and dates are subject to change.

Winter Classes

Open Life Drawing!

Open Life Drawing on All Skill Levels, Ages 16 & Up

Three hours of drawing from a live model for a low-low-price. Come to brush up on your skills or work on that portfolio! The poses will range from 1 minute gestures to long poses; nude and clothed model sessions. Models will vary from 1 week to 3 week increments. Bring your own drawing supplies (i.e. Charcoal, drawing board, paper, etc.) Easels, stools, tables and rolling carts are provided. This is not a class. No instruction will be provided. There will be a monitor present to facilitate model poses.


**Walk-ins will no longer be accepted, students MUST pre-register. Registration will be cut off the Wednesday prior by 5pm and no more than 6 students may register for any one Thursday, so register early to ensure your space!

**Face masks must be worn at all times during class. 

**Students are expected to assist in wiping down any communal studio equipment used both prior to use and after use in class. 


The first four Thursdays of every month, 6pm-9pm

 

Tuition: $15

We ask that if you pre-register and are not able to attend, that you tell our office asap, prior to Wednesday night at 5pm so that we can open those seats up to potential students.

Spring Classes

Drawing the Figure from Life (Spring)

Beginner to Advanced: Young Adults and Adults

Instructor: Joe Granski

The students will learn how to draw the human figure from life using a variety of drawing materials from pencil, charcoal to ink. With poses ranging from 1 to 30 minutes, students will focus on gesture drawing, anatomy, and “trouble areas” of hands, feet, and faces.


Spring Quarter: 8 Weeks

Monday April 12, 6:30pm – 8pm


Tuition: $170, please bring $10- $20 in cash to class for model fee's.

Drawing with Different Mediums (Summer)

All Skill Levels, Young Adults & Adults 
Instructor: M. Jane Johnson

Students will learn to work with charcoal, pencil, pen & ink and other drawing tools.  We will talk about a variety of lines, use of cross hatch, doodling, and possibly have a figure to work with too depending on availability of a model. Drawing with perspective will be explained.  Students will work with realistic drawing, abstract drawing, and doodles. This class is for any student wishing to work on their drawing skills.  


Summer Quarter: 9 weeks

Tuesday June 22, 6pm–8pm


Tuition: $220, supply list provided at time of registration. Model fees may be applied in class.
